Renowned for her unmistakable voice and comedic prowess, Fran Drescher made a lasting impression playing Bobbi Flekman in the iconic 1984 mockumentary film This Is Spinal Tap. While the iconic mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap has long awaited a sequel, the forthcoming film won’t be the first time Drescher has tapped into her role as Flekman. In a clever twist, she previously integrated the character into a fifth-season episode of her beloved ’90s sitcom The Nanny, where her character Fran Fine hilariously impersonated the publicist.
Production of the new movie is in progress
Filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner, in a 2022 interview with Deadline, revealed that the sequel took a long time because the production team wanted it to resonate with the original. “For so many years, we said, ‘Nah.’ It wasn’t until we came up with the right idea how to do this,” he admitted. “You don’t want to just do it to do it. You want to honor the first one and push it a little further with the story.”
Filming for the movie is presently taking place in New Orleans. In addition to Descher, Deadline also mentioned that Chad Smith, the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lars Ulrich, the drummer for Metallica, are anticipated to appear in cameo roles in the forthcoming film.
