Kicking off the life of a music sensation in 1962, Elton John has not been known to shy away from excitement. At , though, he has allegedly been given some warnings about his health and reportedly went through some major weight changes that have some people calmed and others concerned all over again.
In 2021, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent quarantining restrictions, John said that he was taking the time to focus on his health. “There’s no point in moaning about it, no point in moaning about being overweight. You’ve got to do something about it,” he told Deeney Talks podcast host Troy Deeney.
Elton John reportedly undergoes a significant weight transformation
According to RadarOnline, John dropped 40 pounds after those around him voiced concerns for his long-term health. Reportedly, John, who stands at 5’8″, reached a weight of over 200 pounds and he was warned to lose weight or risk health complications.

February of 2023 marked John’s alleged 40-pound weight gain, which he has officially shed, according to sources close to him. Even so, longevity specialist Dr. Gabe Mirkin says the battle isn’t over yet.
“He has reduced – but he STILL has massive abdominal obesity, which means he has a fatty liver that causes and intensifies diabetes,” said Dr. Mirkin.
Elton John reflects on his own experience with weight
“I’ve always had a weight issue and [body issues],” admitted John, “and I think it takes a long time for you to come to terms with that. I don’t think I ever will.” Living his life in front of the camera has given John an interesting relationship with his self-image.
“I never watch myself on video, a show I’ve done, a TV show I’ve done,” he shared. “I just don’t like to look at myself. I don’t have a good body image. It’s been part of me since I was a kid. It’s something that stays with you. At least I can talk about it now.”
Us Weekly reports that John does suffer from type B diabetes and that he wants to work on his health to be there for his husband, David Furnish, as well as their children, “Zachary, 10, and Elijah, 8.
