Dame Helen Mirren Is ‘Blown Away’ By Her Very Own Barbie Doll

Actress Dame Helen Mirren had her own Barbie doll unveiled by Mattel, and the 78-year-old is “absolutely blown away.” She has now gotten her much-deserved miniature version after playing the narrator in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 hit, Barbie.

The doll comes in the blue gown Helen wore to the Cannes Film Festival, as well as a matching hand fan and a little Oscar, representing Helen’s success in the Hollywood film industry. “To be chosen by Barbie as a role model is a huge compliment and something I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams happening to me at this stage in my life,” she gushed.

Helen thanked the company for giving her one of her “favorite achievements” among many, including “becoming a Dame of the British Empire, having an Oscar, and having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It’s a very special thing and something I can add to my list.” She also appreciated the brand’s decision to single out her Cannes Festival look for the doll’s design. “I love that the Barbie doll is wearing one of my favorite ever red carpet looks,” she noted.

Helen’s Barbie also reminds her of the daring decision to attempt that hair color for the first time, and she cannot get over the designers’ attention to detail. “The intricacy and detail of the doll is extraordinary….and it was the first time I’d ever had blue hair, and it felt so exciting,” she added.

Having joined the likes of Diana Ross, Beyoncé, Elton John, and more in having her own Barbie, Helen feels honored by the depiction of her career achievements as well. “The cherry on top of the cake is my doll having a miniature Oscar. It is an absolutely perfect reproduction.” The styling was also a testimony of her preference for “theatrical fashion” and the joy it brings. “I think that this joy should be ageless,” she quipped.

Helen’s 60-year Hollywood career boasts several awards and recognitions, including three Golden Globes, four BAFTA awards, Primetime Emmys, and an Academy Award. She is proud of her age, which she believes is an asset rather than a disadvantage. “At every age, you lose some things, but you gain other things,” she once said during a chat with Vogue. “That’s the kind of magic that happens, so deal with it. You either die young, or you get old.”
