Russell Crowe posted a selfie showing off his newly shaved beard with the caption, “The actor prepares #20. First shave since 2019” on X, formerly Twitter. Like several other celebrities, including Travis Kelce, Jack Black, and LeBron James, the 59-year-old kept his facial hair for years, but has decided to leave the bearded-man league.
The actor looked different and fresh, and although he gave no reason for the sudden change, fans seemed happy about it in the comments. “Looks good! It’s nice to change it up and shave,” someone responded. ” You have a nice face, it was hiding behind all that hair.”

Crowe’s post got over 26,000 likes and hundreds of reposts, as his followers were all for the big reveal. Many said he looked much younger and speculated the look to be for an upcoming movie. “Looking great! Excited to see what’s in store,” a user exclaimed. “I want to know what movie you are about to make, clean shaven is good,” another added.

Amidst the compliments, a somewhat disappointed fan said they “liked you better with the beard.” “RIP Beard,” another quipped. “Must be a pretty serious role to part with the face fro,” someone else added; however these comments got drowned out by the massive show of love. “You’re a man looking good with a beard, but when it becomes too bushy, it makes a man older than he actually is. Long story short… I love to see your face again. You look younger than ever!” a follower gushed.
Crowe has appeared in movies like American Gangster with this beard shaved. However, since 2019, he left it to grow out, styling it as a five o’clock shadow look or a full-on beard hiding the bottom half of his face. He has appeared on red carpets with his long beard and was most recently spotted at the Sanremo Italian Song Festival a few weeks ago.
Other stars have followed suit, including Matt James, whose girlfriend Rachel Kirkconnell helped get rid of the bushy scruff. Last year, he said he does not see himself shaving it off, and that Rachel was “definitely more accepting this time around.” It seems the men are doing an about-face regarding facial hair, and they do not mind.
