61-Year-Old Tom Cruise Stuns Fans With ‘Swollen,’ ‘Puffy’ Face In New Photos

Top Gun star Tom Cruise recently attended a London charity gala in support of London’s Air Ambulance Charity at Raffles London at the OWO (Old War Office) with Prince William and other important guests present. Tom, who was a VIP attendee, wore a new look, and all eyes were on him as a result. He was sporting longer hair and had a chubbier appearance as he posed next to the British Royal Family member in a three-piece suit and matching bow tie.

The famous actor has been dynamic with his looks since his career took off in his twenties; he has kept his hair wavy, short, tapered, and even lowly cut at different points in his life. Months back, he was spotted leaving London via helicopter to continue filming the eighth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise. Tom, who is reprising his role as Ethan Hunt, wore a navy blue padded jacket and a knitted sweater as he made for the helipad while waving and smiling at fans.

Tom had a hard time getting used to fame when people would spot him on the street as a fresh-faced young man in his twenties. “I’m really very private, in my own world. Suddenly I was someone walking on the street and people were looking at me and I was thinking, ‘Jesus, is something hanging out of my nose?’” he said. “It took time to get adjusted to it. It was such a perfect time to do Legend in England. Everyone is looking at you, and somehow, just moving your hand seems so much more exaggerated.”

By the mid to late ’80s, Tom solidified his status in Hollywood and opted for a signature chiseled look. He also tried out longer hairstyles after attending the Screen Actors Guild Awards the year he got nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in Magnolia. During this period, Mission Impossible already kicked off with the first sequel, making over $500 million at the box office. After the mid-90s, Tom explored a new, bolder look by cutting his hair short for many years. In this decade, he worked on Mission Impossible’s third film as well as productions like The Last Samurai, Collateral, and War of the Worlds. He also began dating actress Katie Holmes, who he welcomed a baby with about six years before their divorce in 2006.

More recently, Tom has grown out his hair and has been reported to hate makeup artists attempting to tame his locks on set. His assistant noted on the set of The Mummy’s promotion in Australia’s The Project that only his glam team can touch up his tresses after the staff was asked to “step away” from him. Fans have also noticed his face getting puffier after he showed up to a 2021 baseball game in San Francisco. Rumors of the Jack Reacher star getting cosmetic procedures began to thrive with medical experts like therapy house.co.uk’s registered aesthetics nurse Dawn Attewell weighing in on the issue.

“You can see that Tom looked swollen and puffy, which could be due to excessive filler, post-procedure swelling, or weight gain,” she told FEMAIL, noting that “surgical procedures such as a platysmaplasty, or neck lift, combined with a mid-facelift could create this type of swelling in these areas.” Internet trolls had a field day talking about Tom’s face and making remarks like, “Tom Cruise didn’t age, he got some awful work done on his face that bloated him like a frog,” and “this looks like someone wearing Tom Cruise’s face.” Another made a sinister nod to the star’s religious beliefs, saying, “I thought Scientology held the cure for everything, including aging.” Thankfully, the allegations soon fizzled out after Tom attended the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022, looking slimmer and like his old self.

Did Tom Cruise get cosmetic work done?

The debates about how Tom stays so youthful never really ended, with allegations of getting enhancements like fillers, surgery, and even a hair transplant still flying around. Dr. Richard Westreich told The Sun that the film icon “might have had Botox.”

“Forehead looked as smooth as a drum. His eyebrows also look a little lower than usual,” he said. “If Botox is done fairly heavily, then the brows can drop, and this looks like pretty heavy Botox to me on his forehead…the fact that he may have waited all this time to get Botox is quite interesting.” While Tom has yet to admit that he is not all-natural, other male celebrities like Robbie Williams and Joe Jonas—- who did ads for Xeomin, have openly endorsed cosmetic procedures.

In 2012, he denied ever going under the knife to Playboy, stating that “I haven’t and never would.” However, his former personal manager and retired show business executive, Eileen Berlin, once said Tom was “so insecure about his looks that he took an entire day experimenting with poses for his first publicity headshot.” He “will do whatever it takes to preserve his youthful image as long as possible and will fight anything that stands in his way. Other clients would have you take just one headshot, but Tommy was intent on perfection,” Eileen added.

Is Tom Cruise a millionaire?

Regardless of the speculations, Tom— who turns 62 in July has been able to maintain youthfulness by living healthily and actively. His strength can hardly compare to that of the average person, seeing that he is known to perform dangerous stunts like climbing skyscrapers and halo jumping from planes and motorbikes on set. He is said to live on a “Beckham-devised diet consisting of just 1200 calories, grilled foods and a noticeable absence of carbohydrate,” which, according to nutritional scientist Dr. Paul Clayton, induces the production of insulin, which is an aging hormone. “They become glucose molecules in the body, damaging muscle and skin tissues which causes aging,” he said, explaining why Tom may have cut off carbs. Tom’s favorite physical activities include “sea-kayaking, caving, fencing, treadmill, weights, rock-climbing, hiking.”

In 2024, Tom continues to do what he loves as a movie star with the Mission Impossible franchise being his latest project. He reportedly earns a whopping $600m for his work, making him a millionaire.
