Cher is embroiled in an ongoing legal battle with her son, Elijah Blue Allman. The singer has filed for conservatorship over Elijah after his alleged recent substance abuse issues. Her other son, Chaz Bono, has kept a low profile in the wake of this legal battle but recently made a rare public appearance.
Cher, often stylized as the Goddess of Pop, shares Chaz with fellow entertainer Sonny Bono from their marriage that lasted from ’64 to ’75. She had Elijah with Gregg Allman, known for performing in the Allman Brothers Band, to whom she was married from ’75 to ’78. Here is how their legal battle has unfolded.

On January 25, 54-year-old Chaz was recently spotted running errands around Hollywood, his first public sighting in six months, reports Daily Mail. His last outing was back in July of last year, apparently to visit a chiropractor after experiencing some discomfort he seemed to still be visibly feeling.

During this more recent appearance, Chaz wore his usual glasses, along with a pair of jeans and a dark gray button-up over a black T-shirt. Photographers saw him step out of a car door he closed behind him while holding a travel bottle.
Similarly, Chaz’s partner, Shara Blue Mathes, was spotted that same day running her own errands. She was dressed in a baseball cap, a black vest over a blue button-up shirt, and camo pants.
Cher’s legal battle with her son Elijah
Documents obtained by PEOPLE filed in Los Angeles Superior Court reveal that Cher is seeking to be sole conservatorship of Elijah’s estate, calling him “substantially unable to manage his financial resources,” Allman is to receive assets from the trust before the end of the year but, documents claim, a conservator is “urgently needed … to protect Elijah’s property from loss or injury.”
The filing also argues, “Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from the Trust, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, [Cher] is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will be immediately spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself and putting Elijah’s life at risk.”
The legal battle has now expanded to include Chaz, as Elijah is demanding that his half-brother Chaz, as well as Cher’s long-time personal assistant Jennifer Ruiz, and guitarist Devon Allman be deposed. In legal terms, that refers to questioning someone under oath. As of February 3, according to Daily Mail, Chaz has been subpoenaed to offer testimony and present evidence for Allman’s case.
