Cher’s Transgender Son, Chaz Bono, Spotted Out And About In Los Angeles

Cher's transgender son Los Angeles

Cher’s son, Chaz Bono, from her first marriage to Sonny Bono, was recently spotted outside in a rare appearance in Los Angeles donning a navy t-shirt, light shorts, and flip-flops. The 54-year-old, who had earlier undergone a female-to-male gender transition, leads a quiet life, and Chaz is passionate about human rights.

For the outing, Chaz appeared to be in discomfort as he carefully stepped out of his car and approached Shadle Chiropractic—one of the highly-rated treatment centers in West Hollywood. However, after his session at the facility, the singer seemed to have regained his spirit and gait.

When Chaz had surgery and transitioned fully to a man in 2008 after previously coming out as a lesbian in 1995, it was not a decision that went well with his mother. During an interview with PrideSource, Cher openly acknowledged that it was challenging for her to come to terms with her child coming out on both occasions. “I didn’t go through it that easily. Both times. When I found out Chaz was gay, I didn’t go through it that easily,” she admitted. “When I found out Chaz was [transitioning]… we talked about it a lot, actually. But then Chaz didn’t mention it anymore, so I kind of forgot. And what I think is, there’s such a fear of losing the child you love, and what will replace that child.”

However, the mother and child have since reconciled. In a 2014 interview, Chaz shared that his mom had finally accepted and embraced his identity. “[Transitioning] was kind of the first thing that I did where I was like, ‘OK, I don’t have everybody’s blessing or understanding so to speak but this is what I need to do for myself.’ It really helped me become a man in more ways than one,” he confessed. “Now our relationship is better than ever. It’s really on equal footing. I can really give back and I don’t want anything from her anymore, including approval. And that is nice.”
