Chick-fil-A nuggets are the chain’s second most popular menu item, behind only the fried chicken sandwich. Costco, through its Kirkland Signature brand, now offers nuggets concocted to measure up to Chick-fil-A, offering foodies some options and chefs some competition. But do they measure up?
Chicken nuggets are already a staple of nearly every fast food menu out there, enjoyed by every age. But something about what Chick-fil-A cooks up helps it stand out, with Insider ranking it the third largest chain in the U.S. Chick-fil-A, meanwhile, claims its chicken nuggets, in particular, rank in the top five favorite menu items across the country. Has Costco captured what has consumers so hungry for more?
Chick-fil-A has been at this for a long time
As a restaurant chain, Chick-fil-A is no stranger to adapting, growing, and improving. It started as a Georgia diner called Dwarf Grill offering a one-of-a-kind chicken sandwich. Chef S. Truett Cathy perfected preparing a boneless chicken breast in a pressure cooker before breading and seasoning it; a batch of perfect toppings acts as the proverbial icing on the cake.

Chick-fil-A added chicken nuggets to the menu in 1982 after customers asked employees to cut their servings into bite-sized pieces, the better to serve as finger food. So, Chick-fil-A just added a six-piece chicken nugget option to the menu, utilizing what the chain does best with its other chicken dishes to cook up these.
Has Costco mastered chicken nuggets to rival Chick-fil-A?
Similarly to Chick-fil-A, Costco offers boneless, skinless chicken breast; the chickens are raised withoout antibiotics, which are used by some to make the birds grow larger. The packaging recommends cooking them for 15 to 20 minutes at 400 degrees in a conventional oven. However, when Zoe Strozewski from Eat This, Not That! followed these instructions, she found them to have a nice crunch but not be as crispy as she’d like.

While some other foodies online call Costco’s chicken nuggets “dupes” of what Chick-fil-A serves, others have staunchly defended what Kirkland Signature has put out there. Some call them knockoffs in a positive way, while others outright call Costco’s better.
Have you had either, and which did you prefer?
