Sophia Loren had an emergency surgery after a bad fall in the bathroom of her home in Geneva, Switzerland. The screen icon suffered several “serious fractures” to her hip and femur due to the accident, but is now recovering well, according to agent Andrea Giusti.
However, insiders have suggested Loren’s situation could be worse than her team is revealing, including her long-time close friend, who noted that “she’s literally on her last legs.”
Loren’s team assures a good outcome
Although experts say that Loren’s condition is commonly associated with worse outcomes due to her age group, her representative assured her that she is on her way to full recovery. “Hip fractures are the most serious consequence of falling in older people like Sophia,” expert Dr. Gabe Mirkin, who has never treated Loren, noted.

The representative noted in late September that the movie star was ‘operated with a positive outcome.’ “She will now have to observe a short period of recovery and follow a road to rehabilitation,” the rep added. Following the fall, Loren broke the silence and told her fans that she would be back on her feet soon. “I thank everyone for the closeness and affection that they have been showing me,” Loren said. “I’m better, I just need to do rehabilitation and to take some time off.”
The fall caused Loren to slow down
Loren had the accident days before her new restaurant in Bari, Italy, was supposed to open amid other public appearances she was scheduled to make. She was also meant to receive honorary citizenship from her city until the incident.
Her last public appearance was at the 80th Venice Film Festival for the Armani fashion show on September 2nd, where she wore a power suit and cozied up to the famous designer, Giorgio.
