The Queen of Pop has commemorated another big milestone! Madonna recently celebrated her 65th birthday and she enjoyed the big day surrounded by all of her children. She shared photos of the festivities on social media.
Across multiple relationships and in the framework of a blended family, Madonna is the mother of six children. They are Lourdes Leon, David Banda, Rocco Ritchie, Mercy James, and twins Stella and Estere.

August 16 marked Madonna’s 65th birthday and she spent the occasion surrounded by loved ones. The family spent the day in Lisbon, Portugal, where they had a party on the beach. Along the way, Madonna shared snaps to her Instagram Stories.

“Birthday fun at the beach!” she proclaimed. The accompanying photos show her beside her daughter Mercy, or Lourdes and Mercy together enjoying the sun. Another shows her standing beside son David. The day eventually concluded with a party, during which Lourdes sang, the moment captured in a photo if its own, which Madonna captioned, “Thank you for your beautiful. Music @lourdesleon.”
Much to celebrate in one family
Lourdes is the eldest of Madonna’s children, born in ’96, marking the start of several additions to her blended family. She welcomed son Rocco, who she had with Guy Ritchie, in August 2000. The birth saw Madonna experience complications from placenta praevia, which occurs when the placenta is attached to the uterus in an incorrect manner.
Madonna had been fundraising for her charity Raising Malawi when she adopted David Banda in October 2006. Three years later, she filed to adopt Chifundo “Mercy” James, also from Malawi. In 2017, she adopted four-year-old twins Estere and Stella.
Madonna says she felt an instant connection to each of her children. “It’s inexplicable,” she reflected. “It’s like saying, ‘Why do you fall in love with the people you fall in love with?’ You look into the eyes of somebody, you feel their soul, you feel touched by them — that’s it.” Because of the importance of the task – and doing it for six – Madonna says that motherhood “has been the most difficult, the hardest battle,” adding, “Because, whoever you are, having children and raising them is a work of art. And no one gives you a manual. You have to learn from mistakes. It is a profession that requires a lot of time. And it is exhausting because there is never rest.”
However, whenever the holidays call for gratitude and reflection, Madonna readily names her children as “What I’m thankful for.”
Happy 65th birthday, Madonna!
