Recently, Willie Nelson made an impression on his fans after Mother Nature decided to pay homage to him during his Outlaw music festival. On August 11, Willie performed at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. During the event, Willie’s son, Micah, also known as “Particle Kid,” performed alongside his father, making the moment even more special. He took the lead on some of their duets, including the original “Die When I’m High.”
Prior to the country musician’s entry to the stage, however, the weather was bad and there was a series of lightning. But as soon as he began his performance, the storm stopped. Surprisingly, 10 minutes after his exit from the stage, it resumed.
The 90-year-old sang more than twenty songs that ranged across different genres like folk, jazz, gospel, blues, and country. Thankfully, the performance was wholesome from start to finish despite the threatening weather that kept the audience and crew on their toes.
Like his shows from the past two decades, Willie opened with “Whiskey River” and had a large American flag waving behind him. He has also maintained the same people in his band, including Mickey Raphael, who plays the harmonica.
The country singer serenaded his audience while sitting calmly and taking it slow due to his age and health. However, this did not affect his performance, as his fans were vibing hard to his performance.
The show ended with a cover of Mac Davis’ “Hard to be Humble,” with the cocky line, “Oh Lord, it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in every way.” The track featured special guests Kathleen Edwards and Flatland Calvary.
On April 29 and 30, the Hollywood Bowl played host to Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90, a large-scale birthday concert celebrating Willie’s legacy as he became a nonagenarian. Perhaps his 91st birthday concert will revisit the time his music stopped a tempest.
