Jamie Lee Curtis Opens Up On Past Addiction, Says She’d Be Dead If She Was Still Using

Recently, in an interview with MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Jamie Lee Curtis, famous for her roles in movies like Halloween and Everything Everywhere All At Once, expressed gratitude that her addiction didn’t derail her life before she found the path to sobriety.

“I’m lucky. I didn’t make terrible decisions high or under the influence that then, for the rest of my life, I regret,” Curtis admitted to host Joe Scarborough.” There are women in prison whose lives have been shattered by drugs and alcohol, not because they were violent felons, not because they were horrible people, but because they were addicts.”

The 64-year-old shared that she would have lost her life a long time ago if the drug fentanyl was easily accessible then as it is now. “I was an opiate addict, and I liked a good opiate buzz,” Lee Curtis explained. “And if fentanyl was available, as easily available as it is today on the street, I’d be dead.”

Lee Curtis also reflected that the tragic loss of her brother to an overdose made her seek help as she discovered that it would also become her reality if she didn’t retrace her step. “Sobriety just made it all crystal and clear because I’m so hyperly aware of what the alternative is. I’ve seen it in my own family. My brother at 21 is dead from a heroin overdose,” she confessed. “Once he was clean and sober, and he went out and used one time, and died from an overdose. He is one of millions and millions of people whose lives have been extinguished because of addiction. My gratitude is enormous, because I have this incredible life.”

“My sobriety has been the key to freedom, the freedom to be me, to not be looking in the mirror in the reflection and trying to see somebody else,” Lee Curtis told hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. “I look in the mirror. I see myself. I accept myself. And I move on because you know what? The world is filled with things we need to do.”
