Tom Cruise has consistently pushed the boundaries for action movies by performing many impressive and dangerous stunts. The actor has successfully scaled the mighty Burj Khalifa, fearlessly held onto the exterior of a soaring plane during takeoff, experienced the exhilarating thrill of piloting a fighter jet, and boldly driven a motorcycle off a cliff for a breathtaking parachute jump.
Cruise has repeatedly proven that no challenge is impossible, and soon, he will etch his name among the pioneers as one of the first actors to venture beyond the earth’s surface and touch the stars as he looks forward and prepares to shoot a movie in space.
Tom Cruise had earlier announced his intention to shoot in space
In 2020, it was rumored that the actor had ambitious plans to shoot a movie amidst the vastness of outer space. Shortly after reports surfaced suggesting Cruise’s inclination towards seeking inspiration from the vastness of space for his cinematic endeavors, NASA director Jim Bridenstine officially announced the project. “NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station!” he stated. “We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA’s ambitious plans a reality.”

Following the initial announcement, Deadline revealed that director Doug Liman, who had collaborated with Cruise on the 2014 film Edge of Tomorrow, and the 2017 American Made, was to direct the movie. Furthermore, Universal Pictures executive Donna Langley officially confirmed the film’s production during a 2022 interview with BBC News.
“I think Tom Cruise is taking us to space. He’s taking the world to space. That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom that does contemplate him doing just that, taking a rocket up to the Space Station and shooting and hopefully being the first civilian to do a space walk outside of the Space Station,” the movie executive confessed. “During the pandemic, he asked for a Zoom call with us and got onto the call and said, ‘Guys, I’ve got this great project and here it is’. The majority of the story actually takes place on Earth and then the character needs to go up to space to save the day.”
