New ‘Priscilla’ Biopic Teaser Features Whirlwind Romance With Elvis Presley

The life of Elvis Presley is continually recreated in movies and documentaries, books and musicals. But just as eventful and sensational is the life of his only wife, Priscilla Presley, whose own story is about to be told in the biopic Priscilla, which features a new teaser video.

Fans officially have footage to watch, giving them a good glimpse into what the upcoming film is all about. The movie stars 24-year-old Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla and Jacob Elordi, 25, as the famous couple, and is directed by Sofia Coppola.

A new teaser of the ‘Priscilla’ biopic revisits formative moments in her life

Featured prominently in the new Priscilla teaser is her iconic wedding dress, as is her transformation through makeup, clothing, and hair styling into the wife of the world’s most famous rockstar. In a 45-second video released just this week on the official A24 YouTube channel, the teaser captures the whirlwind nature of Priscilla and Elvis’s relationship.

This is coming on the heels of the highly celebrated Baz Luhrmann biopic Elvis. However, Luhrmann’s film, starring Austin Butler as the hip-gyrating “Hound Dog” singer, focused in more broad strokes on Elvis’s life and career. Priscilla will focus on her and his relationship, told primarily from her point of view.

The powerful names behind the film

Priscilla boasts some very well-regarded talent behind it. Coppola is known for her handling of nuanced subject matter such as this, and her 2006 historical drama Marie Antoinette has won multiple awards at the Cannes Film Festival. A24, meanwhile, is an independent entertainment company whose library includes Everything Everywhere All at Once. The biopic draws inspiration from Priscilla’s own 1985 memoir, Elvis and Me.

Spaeny’s filmography mostly favors sci-fi, with credits including Pacific Rim Uprising and the FX series Devs, but she has also been on the HBO crime drama Mare of Easttown. She’s also been on the political satire biographical film Vice.

Those who see the trailer got a good look at some faithfully-recreated looks from the time, meticulously compiled by costume designer Stacey Battat. In reality, the dress Priscilla got for her wedding came, according to Page Six from a department store.

Priscilla is set to premiere on October 2023, but in the meantime, check out the teaser below!
