Being Elvis’s wife was not always fun for Priscilla as she had to deal with the perks of his fame, like female admirers and more. So many women were enamored with Elvis thanks to his good looks and breathtaking charisma on and off stage.
To tackle the issue, Priscilla “had to learn everything” to deal with Elvis’s many female fans. “My God, I had to learn everything. Women gravitated to him, so I would be nervous when he had to go places alone,” Priscilla told People.
Priscilla moved from Germany to Memphis to live near Elvis at 17. However, since her parents did not let her live with Elvis at Graceland, Priscilla lived with his parents, Vernon and Dee, nearby. Being a girl in love, Priscilla subtly snuck her things into Graceland until she was allowed to move in.
“I felt out of place in their home and did not want to be an intrusion in their personal life,” she recalled. “Almost unnoticed, I began to move in my things. Elvis was still filming Fun in Acapulco in LA, and by the time he suggested I move into Graceland, I already had.”
Priscilla and Elvis lived together for four years before they got married in 1967. After that, insecurities and issues began to surface in their marriage. “I would even go with him to get his teeth cleaned! I always had an eye on him because everyone in the world was after him,” Priscilla said.
Aside from dealing with Elvis’s women problems, Priscilla also had to deal with the Rock-n-Roll king’s raging temper. Priscilla recounted in her memoir, Elvis and Me, how he threw a chair at her. “Once, we were going through a stack of demo records for an RCA soundtrack album, and his distaste for each song grew increasingly apparent,” Priscilla wrote about the ordeal. Her husband asked what she thought after finding a track he liked, and she admitted to not liking it.
“What do you mean you don’t like it?” Elvis responded, to which she replied that something was missing in the tune. “To my horror, a chair came hurtling toward me. I moved out of the way just in time, but there were stacks of records piled on it, and one flew off and hit me in the face. Within seconds, he had me in his arms, apologizing frantically,” Priscilla added.
