Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)

The 76-year-old first began appearing on the show alongside co-host Vanna White back in 1981. The show has since become a mainstay of primetime television alongside the beloved game show Jeopardy!. At this time, there is no news of who may replace him, but of course, many fans are wondering if White may step up to the plate, or perhaps Pat’s own daughter, Maggie, who has been involved with the show to a certain extent as well.

As a result of his time with the show, Pat has won three Daytime Emmy Awards in the outstanding game show host category (1993, 1997, 1998) as well as a lifetime achievement prize in 2011. Sony execs will likely be under the same pressure Jeopardy! was recently under to find a new show host that could possibly come close to filling the shoes of Sajak.
