A 78-year-old woman, Boonie Gooch, has been arrested for a bank robbery after being previously convicted twice for the same offense. According to authorities, during the heist, the woman handed a note of apology to the bank cashier.
A court document obtained by The Kansas City Star detailed that Gooch, the suspect in a recent bank robbery at Goppert Financial Bank in Pleasant Hill, allegedly attempted to flee with stolen cash. However, the prosecutor claimed that she reportedly approached the bank teller on April 5 and handed them a note that read, “I need 13,000 small bills. Thank you sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
Police reveals that they were confused while making the arrest
The prosecutor also revealed to The Kansas City Star that during the robbery, the suspect banged on the counter and urged the teller to hurry up, instructing them not to count the money and to simply give it to her. After the robbery, Gooch reportedly fled the scene, but the police caught up with her in a parking lot, where they discovered the stolen cash scattered on the vehicle’s floorboard while they also noticed a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the vehicle.

However, Pleasant Hill Police Chief Tommy Wright expressed his view that the case was not a common one, and it initially had his officers a little confused. “When officers first approached her, they were kind of confused,” he said. “It’s a little old lady who steps out. We weren’t sure initially that we had the right person.”
Police say this is not the first time Bonnie Gooch will be charged
The Kansas City Star also reported that court records indicate that this is not the first time Gooch has been charged with bank robbery. In 1977, she was convicted of robbing a bank in California, while in 2020, she was also charged and convicted of robbing a bank in Lee’s Summit, a suburb of Kansas City.
Following her second conviction, the 78-year-old was put on probation, which ended in November 2021. However, Gooch is facing one count of stealing or attempted stealing from a financial institution and is being held on a $25,000 bond, and at present, there is no attorney listed for her in online court records.
