Goop founder, Gwyneth Paltrow is under fire for the wellness and diet tips she shared on TikTok recently. The actress was on an episode of “The Art of Being Well” podcast with host, Will Cole when she revealed what her typical meals and routine are.
The clip from the interview has gotten over three million views and mixed reactions on the podcast network’s TikTok— @dearmedia. People took to the comment section to call Gwyneth out for her rather “extreme” tips, although a number of people supported her amidst the outrage.
What is Gwyneth’s typical diet?
The businesswoman gave a very detailed insight into her daily routine from her first meal of the day, till early dinner. “I usually eat something about 12,” Gwyneth started, noting that she practices intermittent fasting. “And in the morning, I’ll have some things that won’t spike my blood sugar. For lunch, Gwyneth revealed that she has soup— specifically bone broth made from “boiling down.” She also added that she makes sure to keep active for an hour daily either by walking, pilates, or fitness guru, Tracy Anderson’s workout.
Next is some dry brushing and a 30-minute infrared sauna session before early dinner. “For dinner I try to eat, according to paleo. So lots of vegetables. It’s really important for me to support my detox,” the mother of two said.
Reactions to Gwyneth’s usual routine
TikTok users expressed their displeasure over Gwyneth’s tips. Some calculated her calorie intake, questioning how little it is. “Why are we promoting starving as a ‘wellness routine?” a user commented.
Also a plus size model, Tess Holliday also condemned Gwyneth’s tips, sharing that they are unhealthy and could negatively affect the younger generation. “… but this isn’t normal and it’s affecting a whole other generation of young folks who think eating like ‘GP’ is appropriate or OK,” Holliday said.
Gwyneth took to Instagram to respond to backlash
The 50-year-old took to her Instagram stories on Friday to stand by her choices and clear the air. She explained that she has “long COVID” which resulted in “high levels of inflammation,” therefore she has to take lots of vegetables, proteins, and healthy carbs.
“I have been working to really focus on foods that aren’t inflammatory, [and] it’s been working really well,” Gwyneth wrote. She also added that she eats way more than just bone broth and vegetables; however, she has excluded sugar, gluten, dairy, and processed foods from her diet. “… My baseline has been to try to eat healthy and try to eat foods that really calm the system down,” she explained.
Gwyneth concluded that she became intentional about wellness when her father was diagnosed with cancer in 1999, causing her to reflect on how lifestyle affects health.
