Jamie Lee Curtis shares two daughters with her screenwriter husband Christopher Guest, the lovers having become parents through adoption. In an interview with Pact’s Point of View newsletter, Jamie detailed the reason for their choice.
“Adoption was the only way for us to have a family,” Curtis revealed. “People who adopt who are fertile have a more difficult decision than when you have no other option. It becomes the viable option for you. If you want to be a family, that’s how you’re going to be it.”
Also, the actress disclosed that her belief in the essence of the family was inspired by her mother’s long marriage. “My mother [Janet Leigh] and stepfather [Robert Brandt] were married for 43 years, so I had a very good role model for that,” she explained at the ICG Publicists Awards in Los Angeles in March 2019. “I’m still married to my first husband, and we proudly have two beautiful children.”
She further detailed to the outlet how motherhood had a huge impact on her career. “Motherhood has changed everything in my life,” Curtis said. “When I began acting, I did not assume I would ever have a child. I made choices based on my life then … Now, I make every decision with my children in mind. I choose my roles carefully.”
Meet Jamie Lee Curtis’s beautiful children:
Annie was born in December 1986, making her Jamie’s oldest daughter. She graduated from Kenyon College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance.
The 36-year-old was adopted by Jamie Lee and Christopher shortly after her birth. “We were married in 1984 and adopted Annie in 1986 in an open adoption,” the actress detailed. “It probably was different for us than for most others. There’s something that happens to other people when you become very, very famous. It’s a look in their eyes — they’re afraid to look straight at you; they treat you like royalty; they’re very self-conscious. But when we met Annie’s birth mother and she said, ‘Hi, I’m happy to meet you,’ it was like boom, it was OK. I knew we could adopt.”
Annie is a professional dancer and dance instructor and works at MNR Dance Factory in Los Angeles. She wed her partner Jason Wolf in 2019. The joyful Jamie took time out to celebrate her daughter on her Instagram page. “A spectacular celebration yesterday at our home for the marriage between our daughter Annie and Jason Wolf,” she wrote in the post. “A loving, familial blending with laughs and tears and truth.”
Ruby, Jamie’s youngest daughter. was born in March 1996. Jamie Lee explained that the adoption of Ruby was unique due to some events that occurred at her birth. In her 1997 interview with Pact’s Point Of View newsletter, she said, “It was serendipitous and involved a friend of mine who died last year. Five or six events came together, all of which resulted in our family growing within four days.”
The 26-year-old, who now works as a computer gaming editor, came out as transgender in 2020. In October 2021, Ruby spoke with PEOPLE about how she felt about revealing her truth. “It was scary — just the sheer fact of telling them something about me they didn’t know,” she revealed. “It was intimidating — but I wasn’t worried. They had been so accepting of me my entire life.”
Ruby tied the knot with her partner, Kynthia, in 2022 in a cosplay-themed ceremony. Curtis took to Instagram to celebrate the newlyweds.”YES THEY DO AND DID! [They’re] MARRIED!” she wrote.
