On Wednesday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, TV personality Kelly Ripa revealed her potential decision to let go of her blonde hair and go gray. “I got my hair colored last night, and I cannot tell you how long it takes now to cover my gray hair,” she told her co-host husband, Mark Consuelos.
The 53-year-old admitted that dyeing her was such an “endless” process that Mark kept checking in to see if she was “done.” “It takes hours and hours, and I swear this morning, I still see gray hair. My hair wants to be gray. It just wants to be gray,” she complained.
Mark seemed excited at the idea of his wife growing out her natural hair color, and asked if she was sure about “letting the gray happen.” “I would do it. I just don’t think, you know, you’ve seen my gray hair. It’s not like a gorgeous silver or a pretty white. It’s almost like, translucent. It’s almost translucent in its quality, which I think is weird. It’s almost like colorless hair,” the Fly Me To The Moon actress responded.
It is not Kelly’s first time changing her hair color as she attempted it during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. “During the early days of the pandemic, I had embraced my gray hair privately while publicly I was using brown eyeshadow to paint my roots some shade that wasn’t Santa Claus white,” she recalled in 2022, adding that “certain people look great with gray hair” but she was not ready at the time.
In 2020, Kelly would often post “root watch” Instagram stories to give a glimpse into her natural hair color. “I gotta tell you, I see you in the morning and I think it looks beautiful. I like it. I’m looking forward to when it’s just completely gray,” Mark said at the time, to which she replied saying, “Which is probably by the end of the week. I’m running out of spray, so yeah, you’ll get to see my gray hair any second now.”
To tint her roots, the mother of three swears by L’Oréal Paris Magic Root Cover-Up, which “requires little effort, looks good, and is so fast.”
“I have tried a lot of similar products before— like every other one on the market, and take it from me, this one is the best,” she gushed. Other celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow of Goop, Salma Hayek, and Jennifer Aniston have proudly shown off their silver locks on multiple occasions, and hopefully Kelly will join them soon.
