Woman Lies To Half-Brother In Order To Reunite Them 30 Years Later

A woman shared one of the most incredible reunion stories ever as she defied all odds to meet with her younger half-brother, whom she only met once during her teenage years. Due to her failed rapport with members of her mother’s family, she decided to reach out to her half-brother from her father’s relationship after his divorce from her mom.

Her decision to meet her brother was informed by her desire to know more about her dad, a bassist who toured with famous musicians like Reba McEntire until he died in 2011. After separating from her mother, he left to settle with his new family in Nashville, Tennessee.

So as not to look desperate, she lied to her brother about being in his city for a work appointment and asked if he would like to grab a cup of coffee. “There was no work event. Coffee was a low-stakes meeting I could get out of if it didn’t go well,” she explained. “Just like that, I planned a 1,500-mile road trip to meet a sibling I hadn’t seen in over three decades.”

The siblings finally met

The meeting was originally scheduled to be held at a hotel with an open space in the center where they would get to sit and talk. “I reserved a hotel with an atrium; depending on how things went, my brother and I could talk for hours without the constraints of a coffee shop, or I could excuse myself due to ‘work obligations,'” she disclosed. “I was nervous, because the meeting held so many possibilities.”

She quickly identified her brother, and they both started the discussion, where she learned that her dad was “one of those cool parents” who was liberal with his children. The woman also discovered that she and her brother had similar life experiences. “We were each of our family’s black sheep. We’d both gotten ourselves on track as adults. I rarely meet others like myself, yet our lives had so many parallels.”

However, the meeting took an unexpected turn when the pair decided to visit the downtown neighborhood of Lower Broadway upon request by the woman.

The visit to Lower Broadway proved to be the best decision made by the woman as it created a relaxing and open atmosphere that allowed the conversation to flow more freely. The scenery helped both of them open up about their past.

“We shared war stories, the most extreme things we’d done growing up and into our 20s. I haven’t confessed like that to friends at home; in many incidents, I was old enough to know better,” she explained. “In his stories, so was he. It was the first time I admitted to my worst, most fun, and most dangerous adventures and knew the listener would have their own tales rather than judge me for mine.”
