'Jeopardy!' Fans Annoyed That Millionaire Ken Jennings Asks For Free Stuff On Twitter

Jeopardy! fans were seemingly annoyed at co-host Ken Jennings after he asked for more free ice cream, despite being a millionaire. In 2004, Ken originally appeared on Jeopardy! as a contestant and won $2.5 million. After appearing in other tournaments, his total winnings went up to around $4.3 million.

Now, he co-hosts the game show with Mayim Bialik, and likely makes a good salary. While Mayim and Ken’s current salaries are unknown, longtime host Alex Trebek previously made $10 million per year.

Ken Jennings asks for free ice cream on Twitter

Hey, @HrishiHirway sent me some of his new Mom’s Mango Pie flavor from Salt & Straw and it’s great! Maybe if I tweet about it, Salt & Straw will keep me on their free ice cream list! pic.twitter.com/gYSAUcLjT8

The controversy began when Ken tweeted a photo of the deluxe ice cream company Salt & Straw’s pint of Mom’s Mango Pie flavor. He captioned the post, “Hey, @HrishiHirway sent me some of his new Mom’s Mango Pie flavor from Salt & Straw and it’s great! Maybe if I tweet about it, Salt & Straw will keep me on their free ice cream list!” The ice cream pints sell for $85 for six pints because of its deluxe flavor pairings.

Salt & Straw also offers ice cream at several locations around the country. Some fans wondered why Ken needed to beg for free ice cream if he is already so rich. Others suggested that he give away some of the ice cream or other gifts he receives. One fan commented, “I love you both BUT…maybe millionaires who can well afford to buy their own could do so? And could also purchase some to be donated to those who can’t? This is what is wrong with the world.” While another said, “Wondering why you would need free anything.”

Others didn’t seem to mind and said that “it was worth a try.” What’s your take on Ken’s tweet?
