72-year-old Jay Leno is currently recovering and receiving treatments after suffering from third-degree burns on his face and hands. He received the burns from a gasoline fire that broke out while he was working on one of his classic cars.
His doctor recently gave an update on Jay’s health and said that he expects him to make a full recovery. Dr. Peter Grossman shared, “His injuries are serious, his condition is good.” He added that he had “significant burns to his face and hands,” as well as his chest. Jay has undergone surgery which Dr. Grossman explained as a “surgical excision and grafting procedure.”

He continued, “He did well with that surgery. He is in good spirits today. Burn injuries are progressive and dynamic. It’s hard to predict what the final outcome will be at this stage in the game.” He concluded, “Currently, there’s elements of nerve damage. I do anticipate him making a full recovery. Whether there will be remnants of this injury is still way too early to tell.”

Dr. Grossman added that Jay has been kind and has even been seen passing out cookies to children at the hospital. While Jay previously shared a statement that said he should be back on his feet in a week or two, the doctor explained that the recovery process will be longer.
He shared, “He seems to be a gentleman who really doesn’t want to make a big deal of this. He wants to get back to work, that’s what he does. I had to tell him that he needs to step back a bit and that these things take time. I feel that he will be back to work sometime soon.” It sounds like Jay is in good hands being treated at the Grossman Burn Center.
His wife, Mavis Leno, was seen visiting Jay and she thanked fans for their support and uplifting words. She said, “He is in good humor and is touched by all the inquiries into his condition and well wishes. He wants to let everyone know he is doing well and is in ‘the best burn center in the United States.’”
