Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta appeared together in the classic movie Grease. Their characters fell in love and perhaps so did they. While they never dated in real life, Olivia and John once admitted that there was some sexual tension and attraction between them over the years.
Prior to her death, Olivia wrote in her autobiography, “Yes, we really liked each other and there was an attraction.” While John once said about Grease, “There is only one person that should play this role and it’s Olivia Newton-John… She’s every guy’s dream.”
Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta experienced sexual tension while filming ‘Grease’
In 2019, during a Q & A, a fan asked them if there was any sexual tension between them while filming the iconic movie. John confirmed it. He said, “I think you saw that in You’re the One That I Want. There’s almost resolve of that tension right there.”

In addition, there were rumors that they kissed at a Paramount Studios after-party. Even so, their romantic feelings never amounted to anything. They were both dating other people while filming and wanted to be respectful of that. However, they did remain good friends over the years.
Olivia shared, “I think it was good because I think it kept the tension there and the chemistry. It might have been a real disaster had we decided to date or we had a falling out or something. So I think it was just as well that it didn’t happen. But we’re still great friends. The truth is, it never went beyond friendship with John despite the fact that the fans wanted for us to become a couple in real life. We left the making out to Sandy and Danny, but the deep feeling of sisterly love I have for John continues to this day.”
Sadly, she passed away this year after a long battle with cancer.
