Robert Downey Jr. is backing the company Kindred Motoworks. They are helping rebuild classic cars and trucks with modern powertrains and technology. The company received an investment from Robert Downey Jr.’s Footprint Coalition Ventures, which focuses on ways to help the environment.

Kindred Motoworks CEO Rob Howard said the company is focused on battery power for the long term. He explained, “The electric piece of the equation is still evolving, right, so as we kind of put that together and improve how that all fits together, we want to make sure we’re still serving the market. We still love the smell of gasoline and the performance of those things, but the future really lies on the EV side, and we’re increasingly focused on that.”

Right now, they’re working on the original Ford Bronco, the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, and the Volkswagen Microbus. The new versions will be available sometime in 2024. Rob added that Kindred Motoworks is different from many restoration companies because they created a step-by-step process that will be more time-efficient.

The company buys donor cars and then sells the completely restored car. They created the process to make it easier for technicians to work on the cars. For instance, the electric Bronco requires 1,900 separate steps and they created instructional videos to help new technicians learn the process.

Robert also wanted to invest to work towards his new show on Discovery+ called Downey’s Dream Cars. The show features classic cars being converted to electric. Reportedly, Robert loves old, classic cars but wants to be more environmentally conscious, so this is a perfect project for him to become involved in.
