Actress Cameron Diaz is opening up about her early career and how she believes one of her first modeling gigs was actually a front. The 49-year-old shared the story on a recent podcast. In the ’90s, Cameron was modeling in California and wanted to move to Paris.
She saved up enough to get an apartment but needed to find some new jobs. She said, “I didn’t work a day. I was there a full year and I didn’t work one day. I couldn’t book a job to save my life. I got like one job, but really I think I was like a mule carrying drugs to Morocco — I swear to God.”

She added, “It was before TSA [Transportation Security Administration] or anything like that. It was like early ’90s. They gave me a suitcase that was locked that had my ‘costumes’ in it — quote, unquote.”

When she arrived in Morocco, officials asked her about the suitcase and she told them it wasn’t hers. Cameron explained, “All of the calculations in my head went running back, like ‘what the f*** is in this suitcase?’ I’m this blond-haired, blue-eyed girl in Morocco, it’s the ’90s, I’m wearing torn jeans and platform boots and my hair down, and this is really unsafe. That was my only job I ever got in Paris.”
Luckily, she never got in trouble, and shortly after she got the role in 1994’s The Mask. These days, she has taken a break from acting since 2018. However, she just announced that she will appear in the upcoming Netflix feature Back in Action with Jamie Foxx.
