Like mother, like daughter! Carrie Underwood is in the midst of her residency in Las Vegas, and her time in the Entertainment Capital of the World was made all the more special with some help from her musical mother. Over the weekend, mom Carole actually performed alongside the American Idol alum to sing “All-American Girl.”
Underwood’s parents, Carole and Steve, raised both her and her sisters Shanna and Stephanie on the family farm in Checotah, Oklahoma. During Underwood’s upbringing, her mother worked as an elementary school teacher while her father worked at a paper mill.
“If you wanna go, I’ll take you”
Underwood’s musical pursuits started and stopped in her early years. She was actually set up to audition for Capitol Records as a teenager but when plans fell through, she said she was actually glad they did. When she graduated high school, she did not plan on pursuing music. Then came American Idol, a powerful stepping stone for many aspiring artists.

Underwood revealed on a Sunday social media post that her mother played a big role in getting her to take that big leap. “If you wanna go, I’ll take you,” she quoted. Her post continues, “These might have been the most pivotal words anyone has ever spoken to me. I was busy talking myself out of trying out for American Idol and my mom said these words…the rest is history.” On Sunday, Carole’s role in her daughter’s career became especially powerful.
Carrie Underwood sings with her mother on stage
“Tonight,” Underwood revealed in her Sunday post, “I got to sing with her on stage in front of the most incredible crowd in #LasVegas Life sure is amazing! Thanks, Mom, for everything!” This duet got to happen when Underwood invited her mother onto the stage alongside her in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The two sang “All-American Girl,” which was written by Ashley Gorley and Kelley Lovelace. Their rendition involved a lot of laughter and improvisation, creating the kind of performance meant more for having fun than producing a platinum recording. Underwood was then heard asking her mother if there was “anything you want to say to these fine people.” To this, Carole said, “I’m so happy you’re here, and I hope you enjoy the show.”
