'Family Affair's Sebastian Cabot Had A Passion For Voice Work Up Until His Death At 59

Sebastian Cabot began acting professionally in 1935. He became known for playing the Wazir in the 1955 film Kismet and as Dr. Carl Hyatt in the TV series Checkmate in the early ’60s, and of course, for his role in Family Affair. In the hit show, he was Giles French, also known as Davis’ butler and father #2 to the kids.

Cabot sadly passed away in 1977 at age 59, but let’s take a look at his life and career and break down all the amazing things he did with his talent and beyond!

Cabot was brilliant as this Gentleman’s Gentleman, who always appears so very proper and gruff but was really charmed by these three kiddos in Family Affair. Cabot enjoyed acting in this series, as it was wholesome and family-friendly.

Sebastian was also a known voice actor, specifically in a number of Disney animated films, including 1963’s The Sword in the Stone and the Winnie the Pooh series as the narrator! Do you recognize the voice now when you go back and listen to the narration in Winnie the Pooh? Some of his Winnie the Pooh works include Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966), Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968), and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too (1974).

His Winnie the Pooh work was his last, specifically in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in 1977. Sebastian died that same year at age 59 after suffering a stroke.

We will never forget such a talented actor, who clearly loved the work that he did until the very end.
