Actress Rose McGowan is known for speaking out about what she doesn’t like, and she has some harsh words for Oprah Winfrey. On August 29th, the actress spoke out about her mistrust of Oprah in a tweet. The tweet included a photo of Oprah kissing disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein on the cheek at the 2014 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
Alongside the photo, she writes, “I am glad more are seeing the ugly truth of @Oprah. I wish she were real, but she isn’t. From being pals with Weinstein to abandoning & destroying Russell Simmon’s [sic] victims, she is about supporting a sick power structure for personal gain, she is as fake as they come. #lizard.”

Oprah has been getting a lot of backlash lately as old interviews have been resurfacing. One of these interviews includes an old one with Dolly Parton, where Oprah gets nosy about the “work” that Dolly has had done, including “some tucks and pulls and sucks.” She also asked Dolly about her mental health, noting she fell into a “depression” when she turned 40.

The clip has since sparked a much broader discussion of Oprah and her ties to Weinstein and Russell Simmons, both of which have been accused of sexual misconduct. Back in January 2020, Oprah announced that she would no longer be an executive producer on a documentary from Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, which highlighted the stories of Simmons’ accusers.
What does she know that we don’t?
“I have great respect for their mission but given the filmmakers’ desire to premiere the film at the Sundance Film Festival before I believe it is complete, I feel it’s best to step aside,” Oprah said at the time. “I will be working with Time’s Up to support the victims and those impacted by abuse and sexual harassment.”
Regarding her prior friendship with Weinstein, Oprah insists she “didn’t know” about his behavior towards women. He has since been convicted on 1 count of third-degree rape, 1 count of criminal sexual assault in the first degree.
