The Slidell Police Department of Louisiana was in complete disbelief when he pulled over a driver with a license plate that expired in 1997. The officer conducted a traffic stop on February 27th after spotting the license plate tag. It clearly shows that the license plate expired more than 20 years ago.
When the driver was asked about the license plate, he had a very funny answer: “Sorry, officer. I’ve been busy lately and totally forgot to renew my vehicle registration. I will take care of it as soon as I get home.”
This man has been driving around with an expired 1997 license plate

Though this response might seem like the guy was being a smart ass, the police department had quite a laugh about it. They also offer a word of advice to others. “We canโt make this stuff up!” the department writes online. “For those of you who like to ‘switch tags,’ at least give us a good challenge and donโt use a license plate that is over 20-years-old and expired back in 1997!”

The post continues, “Yes, this actually happened. Yesterday, one of our officers stopped a vehicle with this license plate on it… Sorry, officer. Iโve been busy lately and totally forgot to renew my vehicle registration. I will take care of it as soon as I get home!โ
People across the Internet think it’s funny, too
Everyone in the comments found it pretty funny, too! “He should be granted honorary โdonโt have to renew ever again membershipโ status. Did we have DVDโs then?ย ๐ค” Another says, “Everyone laughs but this man has saved way more money by doing this than by switching to Geico.ย ๐”
What a hilarious story! We wonder if the guy has renewed his license plate yet…
