He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Katherine, as well as his four children and eight grandchildren. McCallum began his acting career back in 1947 and went on to appear in several popular shows and films. He traveled between there and London throughout his youth and began acting in theatre productions at 17. After a brief hiatus during which he was conscripted into the National Service, McCallum attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, with Joan Collins as a classmate. His early on-screen career would be dominated by films such as Robbery Under Arms (1957), A Night to Remember (1958), and Violent Playground (1958). His television career would continue to flourish with work in As the World Turns, Babylon 5, Murder, She Wrote, Law & Order, and eventually JAG, the precursor to NCIS.
