One of the earliest incidents involved Olsen, who played Cindy Brady. During an outrigger scene, another boat bumped her overboard. Olsen later admitted that she was not a strong swimmer and recalled Florence Henderson quickly coming to her aid. Henderson hooked herself securely into the boat and helped pull her young costar from the water, becoming a real-life protector when Olsen had no family nearby.

Knight faced a different kind of fear while filming the famous tarantula scene. Producers reportedly reassured him that the spider could not harm him, but Knight later said he learned that their explanation about protecting him from its fangs was not true. Williams has also confirmed that Knight filmed with a real spider crawling on him. Knight may have looked brave on television, but he later admitted that he felt genuinely terrified during the scene.
Barry Williams’ Surfing Wipeout Wasn’t Acting
Williams also created tension by insisting on doing his own surfing. Producers initially planned to use a stunt double but agreed after learning he had experience and sent him to Hawaii early to practice. During filming, a wave threw him toward exposed coral. He protected his head but badly injured his feet, and the footage was reportedly so alarming that executives considered cutting it.
On television, the cursed tiki caused one mishap after another for the Brady family. In reality, the cast hardly needed a fictional curse during their Hawaiian trip.
