A new dispute surrounding Dolly Parton’s estate has emerged less than a month after the country music legend’s death. Bryan Seaver, the singer’s nephew and longtime head of security, says he and his companies have unexpectedly lost their roles protecting several properties connected to his famous aunt.
According to InStyle, the Dolly Parton nephew had spent nearly two decades working in security for the singer, following in the footsteps of his father, Larry Seaver. Bryan also became the family member who publicly announced Parton’s death at age 80 on August 25, making his sudden departure from the security operation particularly notable. Parton’s official website confirmed her death that day.
Dolly Parton’s Nephew Speaks Out After Security Shake-Up
According to a termination notice obtained by TMZ, Seaver learned on September 16 that he and his security companies would no longer oversee Parton’s properties. The change reportedly affects her main Nashville home, downtown residence, warehouse, and museum. Replacement security personnel subsequently took over those locations.
Seaver and his team said they felt “dismayed” by the unexpected decision and claimed they had not received an adequate explanation. They pointed to Parton’s longtime manager, Danny Nozell, and Pinnacle Bank while alleging that others may not be acting in the family’s best interests. Those claims represent Seaver’s position, not an established finding. The termination letter also states that his personal interest in the DP Dean Trust remains intact even though his security duties have ended.
His Role With Dolly Parton Went Far Beyond a Typical Security Job
For years, the Dolly Parton nephew played a role tied closely to both family and work. Seaver said Parton had asked him years earlier to announce her death when the time came, calling the responsibility both an honor and a source of deep sadness. His father had previously served as Parton’s head of security before Bryan took over, making his removal more than a routine staffing change as her estate enters a new chapter.
Parton died after a brief battle with cancer, following the 2025 death of her husband of nearly six decades, Carl Dean. Her legacy stretched beyond hits like “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You” into film, philanthropy, literacy work, and business. For now, the Dolly Parton nephew says he remains committed to honoring his aunt’s wishes and protecting her family, even though his official security role has ended.
