The entertainment world is remembering Dolly Parton with tributes and stories of her kindness, humor, generosity, and enormous influence following her death at 80 on August 25. Musicians, actors, friends, and fans have shared memories of the country legend, revealing just how far her impact reached beyond the stage.

According to The Guardian, among the most personal Dolly Parton tributes came from Billy Ray Cyrus, who shared a photo featuring Parton and his daughter Miley Cyrus, whom Parton famously called her goddaughter. Cyrus reflected on knowing Parton for decades and said he would always love her “with my whole heart.”

Cyrus recalled growing up watching Parton before eventually becoming her friend during his own rise to country stardom. One memory took him back to 1992, when tabloid rumors claimed the two singers were having an affair. Cyrus said he went to Parton’s dressing room to apologize for the unwanted attention, only for her to dismiss the drama with her trademark humor, joking that the gossip could help sell records.

Their connection eventually extended to the next generation. Parton developed a close relationship with Miley, appeared alongside her on Hannah Montana, and performed with her over the years. Billy Ray said Parton had recently sent him a message telling him she loved him with her whole heart, making his farewell especially emotional following her death.

Cyrus was far from alone. Taylor Swift praised Parton’s grace and strength, while Céline Dion remembered her joyful voice and generosity. Pitbull, Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, and Tom Jones also shared tributes, as fans left flowers and messages at memorials tied to her life and career.

“Well, I just got the news that my buddy Dolly passed onto the higher and greater side,” wrote Reba McEntire on Instagram. “Dolly, thank you for all the wonderful things you did for us here on earth. Your love, your music and you gave so much with your huge huge heart. There will never ever be another you. We will remember and cherish every memory and every note you ever played and sang. Thank you, Lord, for Dolly. She’s gonna have a blast in heaven singing all her favorite songs with all her family and friends who have gone on before her. I’ll never forget the first time I met you and I’ll never forget our last conversation. I hold it with love in my heart. I will always love you.”

The wave of Dolly Parton tributes reflects the unusually broad affection she inspired during her lifetime. Country stars remembered a friend and mentor, younger performers celebrated an inspiration, and ordinary fans mourned someone whose songs had been part of their lives for generations. For an entertainer who spent decades singing about love, perseverance, heartbreak, and home, the response feels fitting. Parton left behind far more than a catalog of timeless songs. Judging by the stories now being shared, she also left countless people with memories of how she made them feel.
