44-Year-Old Jonathan Taylor Thomas Looks Unrecognizable In Rare ‘Home Improvement’ Family Photo

by Ruth A

Published August 13, 2026

More than 25 years after Home Improvement ended its successful television run, part of the Taylor family has reunited. Patricia Richardson recently shared a rare photo with her former TV sons Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Taran Noah Smith, giving longtime fans a nostalgic glimpse of the actors together again.

According to Deadline, Richardson played Jill Taylor throughout the ABC sitcom’s eight seasons from 1991 to 1999. Thomas and Smith portrayed her younger sons, Randy and Mark Taylor, while Zachery Ty Bryan played the oldest brother, Brad. Although a television revival remains uncertain, the latest picture shows that some members of the fictional family have maintained a connection away from the cameras.

Richardson posted the selfie on Instagram with the simple caption, “My other boys.” The photo featured her smiling alongside Thomas and Smith decades after viewers watched them together each week as members of the Taylor household. The reunion quickly brought back memories of the popular sitcom and its familiar family dynamic.

The picture is especially notable because Thomas has largely stayed away from Hollywood since leaving the spotlight. Once one of the biggest teen stars of the 1990s, he became a fan favorite through his role as quick-witted middle son Randy. Smith also stepped away from acting after Home Improvement. Richardson previously confirmed that both of her former TV sons no longer work as actors.

A ‘Home Improvement’ Reboot Remains Uncertain

The reunion comes as discussions about a possible Home Improvement revival continue to make headlines. Tim Allen, who played family patriarch Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, recently told Us Weekly that challenges involving the actors who portrayed his sons have complicated the possibility of moving a reboot forward. He suggested that a new story focusing on the Taylor children could have been interesting but acknowledged obstacles to making that happen. Richardson has also shown little interest in a revival. She previously disputed claims that the original cast had agreed to return, saying Allen never approached her and that she would not reprise Jill Taylor.

For fans, however, the real-life reunion offers its own dose of nostalgia. Home Improvement became one of the defining family sitcoms of the 1990s, and the Taylor children grew up in front of millions of viewers. Jonathan Taylor Thomas, in particular, became a major teen idol during the show’s run while also voicing young Simba in Disney’s The Lion King. A full Taylor family reunion may never reach television screens, but Richardson’s latest photo proves that the bonds created during the sitcom have not completely disappeared. Seeing Jill, Randy, and Mark together again gives longtime viewers a rare reminder of the family that entertained audiences for eight seasons.
