by Ruth A

Published June 12, 2026

Ann Wilson‘s cancer diagnosis changed the way the Heart singer approached her life, her music, and her return to performing. The rock legend recently spoke publicly about the illness for the first time, sharing how frightening the experience became before she found her way back to the stage.

According to Good Morning America, Wilson was diagnosed in 2024 and later underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. The 75-year-old singer said the experience was scary, but music helped her through the hardest parts of recovery.

Wilson first told fans in 2024 that doctors had removed something that turned out to be cancerous. At the time, her medical team advised her to begin preventative chemotherapy and take a break from performing. That decision led Heart to postpone the Royal Flush Tour while she focused on her health.

In her interview with Lara Spencer, Wilson shared more about what the treatment involved. She said she had surgery and several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Her honesty gave fans a clearer picture of what she had been facing away from the stage.

Wilson said music became a positive force during her recovery. When her energy started to return, she decided to tour again. On her first night back, she chose to appear as she was. She removed her wig and went onstage in a wheelchair. That choice felt freeing for her. Instead of hiding what she had gone through, she let the audience see the truth of that moment. Ann Wilson’s cancer journey became part of her performance, not something separate from it. Her return showed courage, acceptance, and the deep connection she still has with fans.

Wilson recently released the documentary Ann Wilson: In My Voice, hoping fans would see the person behind the music. She also reflected on her long partnership with her sister Nancy and said they are preparing a new project together. With Heart set to return to the stage, Wilson remains grateful that both longtime fans and younger listeners continue to embrace the band. Her cancer battle tested her, but it did not diminish the voice and spirit that made her a rock icon.
