Shelley Duvall, popularly known for her role in The Shining, died on July 11 at the age of 75. Her passing has not only left a vacuum in the hearts of her admirers and loved ones, but it has also led to a major disagreement among her family members. Following her death, her relatives have engaged in a legal dispute to determine who takes charge of her estate.
However, while still looking for ways to resolve the ongoing conflict, the Duvall family has been struck by another tragedy, which has compounded their anguish at this terrible time.
Scott Duvall, one of Shelley Duvall’s brothers, dies
According to a report by In Touch, Scott Duvall, one of Shelley’s three brothers, passed away in Texas on November 18. Before his death, Scott was involved in a legal dispute alongside his two brothers, Stewart and Shane Duvall, who had initiated separate lawsuits seeking to be named administrators of their late sister Shelley’s estate.
Their legal challenge comes as an opposition to a previous petition filed by Shelley’s longtime partner, Dan Gilroy, days after her death. Gilroy, who was in a common-law marriage with the late actress, is also seeking to be appointed as the estate’s administrator.
The legal battle for control of Shelley Duvall’s estate despite recent tragedy
Despite the death of their brother, it does not seem as though the Duvall family is ready to take peace as a viable option. The two surviving siblings seem committed to seeing the legal battle to the end.
Staying true to the plan, Stewart recently issued subpoenas to accountants, demanding access to financial records related to her late sister and Dan from January 1995 to the present. He also revealed plans to question representatives from the accounting firms, as he thinks that laying hold of these records could strengthen his case against Gilroy as they continue in their quest to gain control of Shelley’s estate.
