Tributes flooded social media last month, to celebrate Matthew Perry‘s one-year death anniversary. His Friends co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, and Matt LeBlanc, also shared heartfelt posts as they reminisced old times and the late star’s legacy.
Despite the show of love online, none of Perry’s castmates bothered to visit his grave site in Forest Lawn, Los Angeles. Worse still, it appeared like Perry’s fan love had started to fade as only 30 of them showed up to his grave among the millions worldwide.
Why did Matthew Perry’s co-stars not visit his grave?
Perry’s costars have yet to explain their absence at his grave; however, an insider revealed that it may have been influenced by the late star’s shortcomings. They noted that Perry was different from the friendly nature he portrayed as Chandler Bing, adding that he was secretive and hardly connected with people.
The source revealed that Perry would sometimes switch phone numbers or move houses without informing his loved ones. Hence, they must have felt far removed from him. His family did media rounds for his death anniversary, and his mother Suzanne Perry admitted that she saw his demise coming.
Matthew Perry’s loved ones tried to stop him
Perry’s drug addiction caused concern for his friends and family, with Suzanne confessing that she sometimes blames herself. His stepdad, Keith Morrison, urged fans to donate to the late star’s charity, The Matthew Perry Foundation, to help continue his legacy of helping others avoid his fate.
Perry spent over $9 million on his sobriety journey, which covered 15 rehab visits and thousands of AA meetings. He felt confident about being sober in 2021, which led him to publish his memoir titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, where he claimed to have overcome addiction for good. Surprisingly, he was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment with a concerning amount of ketamine in his system.
