Matt LeBlanc’s publicist has debunked rumors that the sitcom star chose to retire after losing his co-star Matthew Perry last year, noting that the assumption is “rubbish.” A source told previously told the Daily Mail that Matt reclined to reflect on his life after the heavy loss, and has silently retired as he is financially stable.
The insider added that Matt is paying attention to other interests, and it would take the perfect opportunity to bring him back to the entertainment space. From his publicist’s recent one-word reply, it is safe to say that Matt is not leaving the spotlight soon.
Did Matt LeBlanc consider retirement after Matthew Perry’s death?
Matt previously explained that he only seems to be inactive because of his introverted nature, which is a contrast from his Friends’ character Joey Tribbiani. It is not his first rodeo with rumors such as this, as he mentioned in 2012 that people sometimes worry if he is alright, depressed, or upset, meanwhile he is just reserved and not out seeking a TV appearance.
Matt has yet to star in any recent projects over the years since his appearance in Top Gear’s tribute episode to professional motor racer Sabine Schmitz. Per dealing with Perry’s passing, Matt issued a public statement shortly after the tragic announcement last year.
Life after ‘Friends’
Matt starred in popular sitcoms like Married…With Children and Red Shoe Diaries before landing his breakthrough role as Joey Tribbiani in Friends. He went on to have his spinoff Joey for two seasons before taking a five-year hiatus from Hollywood.
He made a comeback with Episodes, which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series, musical, or Comedy, and Primetime Emmy nominations. He hosted Top Gear for two years and then played the lead in CBS’ Man With a Plan for four seasons before its cancellation in 2020. The 57-year-old has a pattern of taking breaks in between to focus on himself, and it is no different this time.
