Supermodel Paulina Porizkova was shocked and hurt when she discovered her late ex-husband, Ric Ocasek, had cut her out of his will. Yet, five years after his death from natural causes, she still grieves for him. Despite Paulina and Ric tying the knot at 24 and 45, respectively, their marriage lasted for 28 years, ending in a peaceful separation in 2017.
After years of “pretending to be fine,” Paulina finally allowed herself to be vulnerable on Ric’s recent death anniversary. Struggling with overwhelming sadness, she decided to share her pain publicly.

The actress posted a clip of her crying on her Instagram page, which attracted sympathy and support from those around her. She confessed she was “drowning” and “lonely,” revealing that due to putting on her brave face for her children and loved ones, no one seemed to understand that she was hurting and in need of help.
A week later, she made a follow-up post sharing that admitting her struggle with grief helped her find a “grief club.” The supermodel appreciated her friends and fans who reached out to her and helped her feel better. While opening up about her grief brought her tremendous support, it was also a reminder of the emotional wounds she suffered when Ric passed away.
She was unable to grief properly due to feeling betrayed
The 59-year-old spoke of how betrayed she felt when it happened, “I will not provide for my wife because she abandoned me” was what she inferred from the will testament he left for her. She recalled that her first thought upon seeing it was, “That’s a lie.” Despite spending nearly three decades together and staying with him until his final days, she thought “somebody made a mistake” with the will.
Paulina learned a big lesson from her relationship to Ric and that has shaped her ideology that only she can be responsible for herself, and she has vowed never to hand over her “autonomy” to anyone again. It’s such a bitter experience for Paulina, but thankfully she has been able to make peace with the betrayal and Ric’s death.
