As Kathie Lee Gifford turns 71 this year, one cannot help but recall her last birthday, when she was celebrated by many family members including the grandkids in the house. Her daughter Cassidy Erin Gifford and daughter-in-law Erika Gifford took the lead with posts about Lee on social media.
Erin uploaded a photo featuring herself, Lee, and her brother Cody with the note, “Beyond thankful for the woman, believer, and mother you are.” written below, followed by a heartwarming photo of Lee playing with her baby Finn Thomas Wierda.
More wishes for Lee
Erika manages to share a similar picture as Erin’s but with herself replacing the 30-year-old this time. They held up a sonogram of Lee’s incoming grandkid, Ford Matthew Gifford, calling her “the greatest bubbe and most fun of humans!” Similarly to Erin’s, the next slide showed Lee holding baby Frank wrapped in a white bathrobe that read, “Gifford 16.”

This was a tribute to Lee’s late former NFL player husband, Frank Gifford, who died in 2015 and reportedly suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). It was interesting that Lee was given a special nickname by her children in relation to her status as a grandmother.
‘Bubbe’ Lee
While discussing on a 2022 episode of TODAY with Jenna and Hoda Kotb, Lee explained that her nickname “Bubbe,” came from the Yiddish name, “Bubbalah,” which means a Jewish grandmother. However, it also exists in variations like bubbe, bubbie or bubbeh.
Lee went for the simplest of the four, seeing that “Bubbie” would come most naturally to a baby. As Lee turns 71 this year, she remains stronger and more gorgeous than ever, thanks to a lifestyle of healthy eating, physical activity, and taking charge of each day as it comes.
