Following reports of an upcoming Frank Sinatra biopic project by Martin Scorsese, which had fans excited, the late singerโs eldest daughter, Nancy Sinatra recently expressed her displeasure at the proposed casting via social media. She took to social media and reposted a photo and caption that clearly announced her disapproval of the stars set to play her parents.
With news of Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence collaborating to play the famous Sinatra duo, Frank and Ava Gardner, several opinions have made rounds on social media. Nancy appeared to agree with one which read โSorry Leo and JLaw, you will never be them,โ alongside an old photo of Frank and Ava.

It is not Martinโs first time trying to make a Frank biopic, and his efforts were hindered by Olโ Blue Eyes’ family. โCertain things are very difficult for a family, and I totally understand. But if they expect me to be doing it, they canโt hold back certain things,” he said in 2017 after his 2014 attempt was blocked by Frankโs estate. “The problem is that the man was so complex. Everybody is so complexโ but Sinatra in particular.โ

Martin seems to have newfound hope about Frankโs story being told, as he appeared to throw in the towel years back. โWe canโt do it! I think it is finally over. They wonโt agree to it. Open it up again and Iโm there!โ he said at the time. With Nancyโs recent action on X, it appears that surviving members of the Sinatra household might make it difficult for Martin to create yet again.
Amid the excitement about the โNew York, New Yorkโ croonerโs biopic, it has yet to be confirmed with no studio on the project. However, reports say Sony is likely to take it up. Leonardo is said to be excited about his role alongside Lawrence, whom he worked with in Adam McKayโs Donโt Look Up.
Should this biopic be successful, it would be Lawrenceโs first time working with Martin, who has collaborated with Leonardo on several award-nominated modern classics like Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and more recently Killers of the Flower Moon. Martin is also looking to star Leonardo in another 2024 feature film adaptation of David Grannโs The Wager.
