Kathy Bates was recently seen in Los Angeles while filming the new CBS reboot of the popular ‘80s sitcom Matlock. She set out on the street wearing a red jacket over navy pants and a printed blouse, with her gray tresses in an updo.
Aside from her acting prowess which she displayed, the 75-year-old actress was noticeably slimmer after recently shedding over 60 pounds. She also appeared more youthful with her smooth, wrinkle-free skin, likely due to her latest lifestyle change.

The Richard Jewell actress battled with Type II diabetes, which she claimed “runs in my family,” and was motivated to lead a healthy lifestyle to manage the disease. “I really didn’t want to live with that. I’m in the best health I’ve been in in years, and I’m so grateful— it’s a miracle,” she told Extra, adding that she underwent a mindset change before it became physically obvious.

Kathy explained her simple weight loss trick: “After you eat for 20-30 minutes, you experience an involuntary sigh. It’s communication between stomach and brain telling you you had enough, and what I discovered is if you listen to that sigh and push that plate away for just five minutes, you realize you’re satisfied, and you don’t have to eat more.”
Kathy has been through several health challenges, including two cases of cancer and lymphedema, which is a common post-cancer side effect due to excess fluid from inflamed tissue. “I’ve lost a lot of weight, and it’s really helped with my symptoms. I just still have to wear compression sleeves or guard against bug bites because that can lead to sepsis,” she explained.
The film star, who currently plays Madeline Matlock in the legal drama reboot Matlock, had stage one ovarian cancer in 2003 and underwent a mastectomy in 2012 after a tumor was found in her left breast. Despite the difficulty with her well-being, Kathy has built and maintained an impressive Hollywood career, earning recognitions such as multiple Saturn award nominations as Best Actress.
