Rita Moreno lived up to her promise to “wear a gown that’s gonna knock your socks off” at the 2024 Oscars. She had teased her look on several occasions, including a chat with Today’s Hoda Kotb. True to her claims, Moreno arrived at the Dolby Theater in an ensemble that got all eyes on her.
The West Side Story star wore a 3D black Badgley Mischka hourglass gown with huge ruffles, a high neckline, and a train. She accessorized with matching shoes and gloves, a gold watch, and studded earrings. She also debuted a dark, shaggy pixie cut, contrasting with her signature silver locks.

Moreno noted during ABC‘s red carpet pre-show that her outfit was an “homage” to actress Chita Rivera, a woman she admired. “I’m just having fun wearing this wig,” she added, noting that her gray hair was still intact. Beside Moreno was her fifty-seven-year-old daughter, Fernanda Luisa Gordo, who is known for movies like Brisco County, Jr., An Inconvenient Woman, and her 2021 documentary Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It.

Luisa complemented her mother’s all-black look with a white gown adorned with a sheer embellished bustier and a long feather skirt. She kept her hair in a high bun with side-parted bangs and kept her accessories minimal and classy. Her mother shared photos from the event on her Instagram, and fans could not get enough of her mother and daughter. “You stole the show, ma’am,” someone gushed.
Moreno turned 92 last December, and having left behind her 80s— a decade where she claimed to “still be sexy,” she still makes an effort to uphold her youthfulness. The fabulous skin legend shared an “amazing and a very, very simple solution” to achieve a “younger” appearance with makeup during her chat with Woman’s World for their 2022 issue. “I’ll tell you, this is my own thing, the lighter the base the more flattering it will be,” she revealed.
The mother of one explained that “makeup that’s at least three shades lighter than my own skin…doesn’t take it away from your natural color, but you see less wrinkles.”
“People use very dark makeup and they are usually very orange-y,” the Carnal Knowledge actress added. “But the lighter the base color, even if it is lighter than your skin, the younger you are going to look.”
