Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter has stayed true to her resolve not to get cosmetic surgery, yet she looks as young as ever. The iconic actress claims she has not “changed too dramatically” and credits her glam team for keeping her gorgeous for public events. “People still recognize me all the time as Wonder Woman,” she told PEOPLE.
For Lynda Carter, staying away from the knife has been a result of fear rather than bias. “I don’t cut my face, so I probably look just myself but older,” she added. “The reason I’ve never had any facial surgery is just because I’m afraid. It’s scary because we’ve all seen some bad ones.”
How Lynda Carter stays looking so young at 72
Carter admitted that celebrities hardly look like their red-carpet selves thanks to spending time in a chair with some really good people doing their hair and makeup. “Having somebody dress you that has got something to do with it. Actors and celebrities always look so great when they’re on the red carpet,” she explained, adding that “when you see them in real life, they just look like a regular person.”

She emphasized that famous stars like herself are no different from the average fan if not for the effort that goes into their looks. “Everybody looks the same when they’re not all dressed up. If everyone did a three-hour makeover before they left the house, then they’d all look amazing,” she quipped. The 72-year-old assured no glamorous entertainer “walk out the door looking like that!”
Over the years, Carter has been best associated with the hit film Wonder Woman; beyond that, she is a singer who recently released a tribute single to her late husband, lawyer Robert Altman. She penned “Letters From Earth” to her lover of nearly four decades, who died from blood cancer in 2021. “The next part of my life is I want to learn who I am,” she said of moving on. “It’s totally frightening. I don’t know who I am without Robert.”
In her recent chat with PEOPLE, Carter revealed she is working on music and figuring life out. “Do I really want to work that hard again?’ I don’t know!” she exclaimed. Carter’s two children, James and Jessica are all grown up and often spend quality time with their mother who took a hiatus from Hollywood to raise them. “Turns out my greatest adventure of all was becoming a mom,” the proud mom reflected. “And I have loved every minute of it.”
