American Horror Story actress Jessica Lange was spotted in New York City with her good friend, Susan Sarandon. The 74-year-old actress was being pushed in a wheelchair by an unknown woman wearing a red cap.
Lange wore a black coat with matching gloves, gray pants, and a pair of cat-eye shades, while Susan walked by her in blue jeans, a scarf, burgundy shoes, and a black leather coat. Lange’s appearance looked concerning; however, her representative confirmed that she was okay.

Amid rising concerns about Lange’s wellbeing, her spokesperson assured the public via Page Six that she is “healthy and well” but recovering from “a leg injury she incurred at a dog park.” Last year, the actress expressed her desire to retire due to the diminishing value of creativity in Hollywood.

Lange told the Telegraph in October 2023 that the industry now focuses on “satisfying stockholders.” “Creativity is secondary now to corporate profits. The emphasis becomes not on the art or the artist or the storytelling. It diminishes the artist and the art of filmmaking,” she explained, adding that the rise of “big comic-book franchise films” is the reason she has no interest in modern films.
Jessica Lange speaks on ageism in Hollywood
Lange spoke against ageism and sexism in Hollywood during her time as AARP magazine’s August 2017 cover star. “Ageism is pervasive in this industry. It’s not a level playing field,” she said. “You don’t often see women in their 60s playing romantic leads, yet you will see men in their 60s playing romantic leads with co-stars who are decades younger.”
She also commended female colleagues her age, like Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, and Susan, for “still doing viable, important film work.”
“You do whatever you can because you want to keep working,” she said. While discussing her possible retirement with The Los Angeles newspaper, the multiple award-winning actresses noted that she would like to “go out with a bang or, should I say a scare?”
