People are always encouraged to dream big, and Arizona native Marg Burg kept her ambitions as high as they go. Burg celebrated her 90th birthday with her head in the clouds, quite literally, opting to usher in the occasion by skydiving!
Fittingly, Burg had some very executive inspiration behind this bold decision. But while she’s also been inspired by others, she also has some important lessons to impart to others. Burg lives by the philosophy of, “Do what you want to do while you can still do it.”
Marg Burg opts to celebrate her 90th birthday by skydiving
Back in 2014, former President George H. W. Bush celebrated his own 90th birthday by skydiving; this was part of Bush’s tradition of celebrating every fifth birthday with a daring leap of faith – even when he lost mobility in his legs. That’s just the kind of thrill and grit Burg felt inspired by.

“If he can do it, I can do it when I reach 90,” she reasoned before the big jump. “Lord never thought I’d reach 90. So, here I am and I’m going to jump.”
To see her big birthday wish come true, she went to Skydive Buckeye and had to sign a waiver. After learning all the safety instructions, Burg found herself 14,000 feet above the ground, accompanied by a handful of others. Not to be deterred by a little height, Burg leaped.
A nonagenarian gets to do what very few ever do
Burg was in total freefall for a whole minute, a stretch of weightless time that Burg cites as her favorite part.
“It was great, just like I was flying,” she gushed. After that, the professional skydiver with her pulled their chute. The rest of the glide down to solid earth took about five minutes.
Burg got her big opportunity on Thursday, which was not just a unique opportunity reserved for only some daredevils, but it also marked Burg finally fulfilling a lifelong dream of hers. Fortunately, while the former president once became entangled in his parachute – a hazard that is reported to have been nearly lethal to him – Burg did not encounter any such scares.
A very happy birthday to Marg Burg, and many more!
