Primetime Emmy Award winner, Kevin Costner, has a large family as he welcomed seven children from three women. The kids live in a blended family, all thanks to him for his sacrifice and commitment to raising them under his watch. Costner has been in the spotlight for several years but does not allow the accolades and career to get in the way of his life as a loving and adorable dad to his children.
In a 2018 interview with Parade, the actor revealed that his major focus is his children and that movies are just like a means to an end. “Movie is a hobby, just like building houses is a hobby for me, creating an environment for my children and friends,” Costner told the outlet. “I want to make places where people can feel safe and good and hopefully flourish.”
Kevin Costner’s love affair
The 67-year-old has been married just twice. Costner met his first wife, Cindy Silva, in 1975 at the California State University, Fullerton, where they were both students and the duo started dating. Three years later, the pair tied the knot and started a family. Costner and Cindy welcomed their first child, a daughter, Annie in 1984. In 1986, the couple had their second daughter Lily and their son, Joe who was born in 1988.

However, after sixteen years of marriage, the couple decided to go their separate ways and officially divorced in 1994. After announcing his separation, Costner began a relationship with Bridget Rooney, a Pittsburg Steelers heiress. The relationship was however a short one because it lasted for seven months but not before they welcomed Costner’s fourth child, a son, Liam together.
The 67-year-old met Christine Baumgartner, a model and handbag designer whom he began dating in 2001. Costner revealed to Parade that they briefly broke up in 2002 after they disagreed on his decision to have more children. “She said, ‘I’m going to wait for you, but not long. When you come to your senses, come back to me,'” he told the outlet years later. “And I did. Maybe it’s the ability to say you’re sorry.”
The couple eventually got back together and tied the knot in 2004. They have three children together, their first Cayden Wyatt whom they welcomed in 2007, Hayes Logan in 2009, and Grace Avery who was born in 2010.
Kevin Costner cares about his children with Christine Baumgartner
While Costner loves all his kids, he once revealed that he chose to spend more time with his younger children. “I don’t kid myself about certain realities: I won’t be around to see as much of this one’s life as I’ll get to see of my older kids’ lives,” he said. “So with [them], I really want to be there for every single moment that I can.”
He also told Mom.com in 2015 that sometimes, his children bring up a discussion about who he loves the most out of all his kids. “As [my] children interact together, there’s always this little bit of, ‘Do you care for us now as much as you do them?’ That’s just a natural thing that happens, and you have to talk about how big love is,” Costner said. “The ability to be able to love somebody else doesn’t mean there’s less love for you. Love seems to be always able to hang on to as many people as needs to be in that circle.”
He talks about his relationship with his daughter, Grace Avery
The 61-year-old revealed in a 2015 interview with E! News that his relationship with Grace, his youngest child is very cordial and that she is a daddy’s girl. “She’s becoming that right now, and that’s usually because her mommy starts to say ‘no’ to her,” Costner claimed. “I don’t say ‘yes’ all the time but for a while, if you want that real good attention, you have to say ‘yes’ a little bit more.”
The 12-year-old is a regular face at red-carpet events and she is often spotted alongside Costner and her older siblings. Though Grace seems to be her father’s favorite, Avery, Cayden Wyatt, and Hayes Logan, sometimes attend movie and TV premieres with their father too.
