Actor Neal Bledsoe recently left the Great American Family Network (GAC Family) after Candace Cameron Bure made some controversial comments about her new movies on the network. She said she hopes to keep the focus on “traditional marriage,” which upset some people, including Neal.
After Neal shared the news of his exit and his reasons, his former co-star and GAC Family star Danica McKellar spoke out. She said, โNeal is a wonderful person. Heโs such a great actor, and I have enjoyed working with him so much. He and I both share our love and support of [the] LGBT community, for sure. You know, I donโt agree with his interpretation of her comments. I just didnโt see them the same way.โ

When Neal announced his exit, he explained, “As someone who struggled as a young man with our societyโs extremely narrow definition of masculinity, it was their community that provided me with refuge and a guiding light when my life felt lost. And now, if I cannot stand up for that community in their time of need, my debt to them means nothing.”

He continued, “So, I want to be very clear: my support for the LGBTQIA+ community is unconditional โ nothing is worth my silence or their ability to live and love freely in a world that we are lucky enough to share with them. I hope GAF will change, but until everyone can be represented in their films with pride, my choice is clear. I look forward to working with creators who put no limits on the stories we tell and follow through on their message of values with open arms.โ
Danica added that she loves Neal and wishes him well. She interpreted Candace’s comments in a different way. She shared, “When she was talking about the portrayal of heterosexual couples in the movies, she started the sentence with โI think,โ which is not definitive, and she ended it with โat its core,โ which doesnโt mean exclusively.” Candace has since apologized and said that she loves all people as a devoted Christian. What’s your take on her comments?
