Snakes are many people’s worst fears. Encountering one unexpectedly in your home can be a nightmare. Not only would it be scary, it could actually be unsafe. Some snakes are very dangerous and could bite you and harm you or your family members. So, unless you want a pet snake, you probably don’t want them in your house.
Most snakes in North America are harmless and if you find one in your home, you want to get it out as safely as possible. Keep in mind snakes don’t want anything to do with you either. Remain calm because snakes react based on how you react. If you are freaking out, screaming and acting frantic, it may make the snake react badly and jump or bite at you.
Stay away from chemical snake repellents because many can harm people, the snake, your pets and the environment. Look for a repellent that is more natural like Ortho Snake B Gon that helps prevent snakes from entering your home and it will not harm you, your pet or the environment.
To also prevent them from entering your home, seal any damp, cool entry spots. Keep your yard tidy and clean. Snakes can hide in long grass, wood, and other large items in your yard. They can slither right into entry ways in your home looking for food or shelter.
If a snake is in your home, call animal control as soon as possible. They can come and identify and remove the snake for you safely and quickly. If they are taking a while to come, you can use a push broom to sweep the snake away at a safe distance.
If you are absolutely sure that it is a snake that won’t hurt you, you can pick it up with gloves and relocate it. Keep in mind most people should leave this to the professionals unless you have worked with snakes in the past.
Have you ever had a snake in your home? How did you remove it? Do you actually like snakes and have a pet snake?
